About our film

About The Film: The film “ISOLATION” has been shot on a handy cam & is on the theme of hope. The film deals with a burning social issue of HIV-AIDS, with a message of hope to those who are suffering from the disease in real life. The story is about a youth who is suffering from the disease and has been isolated from the society.

SYNOPSIS:

‘ISOLATION’, is basically a portrayal of the agonizing existence of a disillusioned youth, Vikranth distracted and diverted from the mainstream of the society following an unfortunate detection of HIV. The careeristic planning of this highly talented and ambitious young man from a middleclass family seemed to have come to a standstill with a firm denial on the part of his kith and kin to support, encourage and sympathize him. Meanwhile his brief romance with Raka, a sweet looking girl of this modern society had received a major upset at the point of its culmination on the ground of insecurity and other hazards. Life had never been a smooth flow but always a struggle for Vikranth, who had been swinging in between persistent misfortune and deep-rooted indifference accompanied by disgust and frustration towards life. The indifferent fortune of Vikranth had even driven him in making suicidal attempts which had been foiled ultimately by the miraculous form of events with luck gradually tilting in favour of this young lad thereby rekindling a flickering ray of hope in the abyss of darkness to enable him to move ahead in pursuit of an enlightened path, illuminated by the supreme tenets of humanity. The humanitarian feelings have been exquisitely reverberated through the exposition of the underlying message relating to the essence of unity to combat the evil powers of HIV and assist the affected in leading a life of normalcy by providing moral strength, stamina and courage.

Media Reviews:

June 22, 2008, Indian Express reported:

"His gelled hair and skinny pants make him a part of the yuppy crowd of the city. But something sets Sangbit Sammadar apart. “It’s important to realise that there is a life beyond AIDS. If you are HIV positive that doesn’t mean that you have AIDS. One should think beyond,” says the Class XII student of South Point High School with a glint in his eyes. Sammadar, who is barely 18 years old, has already shot a film on the topic and is all set to embrace a career in films."

On June 18th, Indian Express reported:

The film titled Isolation, chronicles the trial and tribulations of a HIV positive youth. “His family refuses to support him. And he is driven to the edge because of the discrimination he faces,” says Sammadar. But the underlying message of the film is that of hope, insists Sammadar. “Being HIV positive does not necessarily mean that a person is an AIDS patient. That is what we want to say in this film,” says Sammadar.

On 9th August, The Telegraph reported:

"A bunch of high school and college kids with a borrowed handycam, nothing else in hand but a painstakingly-raised sum of Rs 10,000 and much enthusiasm. This is roughly what went into making Isolation, “a film on hope” by Sangbit Samaddar, a Class XII student of South Point High School. Isolation was screened at the conference hall of the Academy Of Fine Arts on Tuesday.
“Though it deals with HIV/AIDS, it’s a film on hope,” says Sangbit. ''

On 5th August, The Hindustan Times reported:

“They say morning shows the day. And if recent events in Sangbit Samaddar’s life are anything to do with it to go by, this young man has a bright career ahead. Sangbit, a student of Class 12 in South Point School, caught the filmmaking bug early and already has an issue-based short film under his credit. “My film isolation deals with HIV/AIDS, and is about a young man who is expelled from the mainstream society when he is diagnosed with HI.But it’s a film about hope.” says Sangbit, which seems appropriate considering Sangbit made a resolution at the new year's party "

On 20th September The Times Of India reported:

"If you thought vacation for kids these days meant endless hours of adda with friends, think again. A band of South Point School students have spent their vacation and a major chunk of their leisure hours since then making a film with a message. And what is it? That AIDS may be condemned, but not an AIDS patient. Class XII student Sangbit Samaddar has scripted his film Isolation based on real-life experiences of four patients, all engineers."

On 14th November Hindustan Times Reported:
"They are a band of youngsters with a difference. Yet to complete their schooling, they have already joined the club of moviemakers and their creation will be showcased in this year's Kolkata Film Festival in the short films section. The director, editor and the cast of Isolation are all students. Leading the bandwagon is Sangbit Samaddar, a student of Class 12 of South Point High School, thus bagging the youngest director tag. Eight other members of the eleven-strong crew are all school students. The music too has been scored by a young duo- Anish Basu and Siddartha Basak. Initially the crew had difficulty in finding an actor to play the role of an HIV patient till Gaurav Chakrabarty, son of Sabyasachi Chakrabarty was roped in."
